this painting reminds us that caterpillars turn into butterflies.  and actually, if you've ever witnessed the process... its gross.  and if something goes wrong, the caterpillar just dies in a myraid of ways too yucky to describe here (I raise monarchs in the summer!!) BUT if they did all their pre-work, like eating enough plants and are ready for the transformation--they come out of it completely different than how they went in.  its amazing!!  and we humans also go through these transformations, over + over again.  not sure you're a butterfly yet?  its ok, keep going :)

I painted this in 2024 when I was beginning to explore portraiture--before all the "wild faces" and bold colors.

This is an acrylic painting on sketchbook paper -9x12".  These sketchbook paintings occasionally have extra marks on the page (front or back) that let you know they were painted by a real person in a sketchbook :)

  •  please note I do my absolute best to make the photos match the real-life paintings, but it is a challenge with my vibrant color palette! Most of the time, paintings look much more vibrant in real life, but just be aware that there may be discrepancies between what you see on screen and the actual product.
